Rapid Response Plan

Central Blood Bank

The PR Crisis

Due to a shortage of available platelets, a five-year-old child with leukemia could not get a scheduled transfusion on time. The child survived but the mother wrote a scathing letter to the editor of the local newspaper slamming the Blood Bank for allowing the shortage to happen and for not appealing to the public for more donations. The letter was published and was then picked up by a radio talk show and discussed during it's mid-morning schedule.

Rapid Response Team Responsibilities

Rapid Response Team 1:  Event Planning

You are staging a blood drive that has been publicized and is attracting a large group of donors. By coincidence, it is taking place the same day the letter to the editor is being discussed on the radio talk show. Suddenly, TV crews, radio and newspaper reporters show up asking for a spokesperson and interviewing people who are there to donate blood. How do you respond?
